UX Case Study: Drip —
Mindful Café Ordering
Project Duration: 4 Weeks
Platform: iOS & Android Mobile App
Project Overview
Context
Modern coffee shop apps are often designed in a way to bombard users with pop-ups, complex loyalty tiers, countdown timers, and overwhelming menus. While efficient for the business, this creates a chaotic experience for coffee lovers who view their morning ritual as a moment of peace.
The Problem
Busy professionals and students want to skip the queue at local cafés, but existing ordering apps induce anxiety through cluttered interfaces, unpredictable wait times, and relentless upselling.
Core Objective
Design an ordering app for Drip that streamlines mobile ordering while preserving the calm, intentional ritual of buying a morning coffee.
Research & Discovery
To understand the friction points we analyzed user experiences to create new UX solutions.
Key User Insights & Solutions
1. Option Paralysis: Too many drink modifications on one screen.
2. Progressive Disclosure: Group customization into intuitive, step-by-step flows.
3. No aggressive notifications.
4. Visual Fatigue: Bright, high-contrast UI pushing ads.
5. Calming Aesthetics: Warm neutral palettes, generous white-space, and tactile micro-interactions.
Information Architecture & User Flow
Instead of forcing users through multiple upsell banners, Drip prioritizes a streamlined "3-Tap Repeat" or a relaxed exploration flow.

Key UX Features & Design Decisions
A. Mindful Menu & Progressive Customization
Instead of showing every milk, syrup, and temperature option at once, Drip breaks customization into natural, selection choices,
-
Micro-copy: Uses natural language instead of dense forms.
-
Defaulting to Calm: Pre-populates the user's saved preferences to reduce cognitive load.
B.Dynamic Rewards system
Drip provides a gamified version of rewards where users collect beans which can be redeemed for discounts, and free beverages.

Visual Design System
We didn't want to create another static modern sleek system. We wanted to bring the warmth of a cozy corner coffee shop to your phone.
